The 6th century saw the birth of Hoteliering in the form of “Inn Keeping” with the world’s first luxury Hotel opening in New York City, USA in the year 1794.  The onward journey was a period of trials, through the cascades of high and low; the real swing in its fortune came after the 2nd world war and there was a genuine and tremendous growth in the Hospitality Industry. As on date, around 12 lakhs people are employed in Hospitality Industry in India, of which nearly 30% are employed in hotels. Report reveals that only 85,000 of the total employees in the Hospitality Industry are trained either at the government or at the private run Hotel Management Institutes even though employment demand has increased by 15% for the past three years. By 2010 the Hospitality Industry would require at least 4 lakhs trained manpower.

Report also reveals that during 2003 alone, 27,50,290 foreign tourists visited India which in return gave us the foreign exchange earning of Rs 17,049 crores.

The phenomenal demand and urgent need for trained manpower is a world-wide phenomenon.
